Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have sent out their wedding invites — and there's an interesting American twist
Better keep a close watch on that mailbox — invitations to the royal wedding have been sent out.
Kensington Palace has announced that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have “issued” (pronounced, one hopes, in the British style) their wedding invitations ahead of their May 19 nuptials.
In addition to the ceremony at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, guests are invited to a lunchtime reception at St. George’s Hall hosted by none other than Queen Elizabeth II, the groom’s grandmother.
The party will carry on well into the evening, with Prince Charles hosting a second reception for 200 lucky guests at nearby Frogmore House that evening. No mention is made of his wife — Harry’s stepmother — Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Later that evening, around 200 guests are being invited to the reception at Frogmore House given by The Prince of Wales.

The invitations themselves are steeped in tradition — no confetti here. Barnard & Westwood has been making the royal invitations since 1985. These were die-stamped on a machine, affectionately named Maude, that dates back to the 1930s. They’ve also been embossed with Prince Charles’s three-feathered badge.

Lottie Small, who recently completed her apprenticeship, printed all of the invitations in a process known as die stamping, on a machine from the 1930s that she affectionately nicknamed Maude. pic.twitter.com/kWs2RFx7nN

But there is one new twist. In a nod to the bride’s background, the invitations feature American ink on English card stock.

It’s unclear when exactly the invitations were sent out. Mel B, who is reportedly performing with the reunited Spice Girls for the occasion, claimed to have received her invitation last month.
