Is This Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's New Brand Name?
After the Queen banned Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from using the word "royal" in their personal branding following their exit from the British monarchy, everyone wondered what they'd call themselves moving forward. However, it seems as if Meghan and Harry have already carefully considered this question.
Earlier this week, Meghan's BFF Jessica Mulroney registered a new domain — sussexglobalcharities.com — on behalf of the couple through her own nonprofit, Shoebox Project Foundation per the Daily Mail. While it hasn't been confirmed that their new brand name is, in fact, "Sussex Global Charities," it seems like a promising choice.
In the past, Meghan and Harry have enlisted friends to quietly file for URLs they may want to use in the future. As the Daily Mail points out, Meghan's U.S. business manager, Andrew Meyer, registered two websites, archefoundation.com and archefoundation.org, eight days after the duchess announced her pregnancy.
In September, he also renewed the trademark for Meghan's shuttered lifestyle blog, The Tig.
Despite having a solid alternative for their brand name, Meghan and Harry don't seem too happy about having to change it. In a lengthy outline detailing their transition, the Sussexes touched on the topic, revealing that they will no longer use the term "royal" out of respect for the Queen's wishes, but they made it clear that she doesn't legally own the word.
In the statement, they boldly noted: "While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020."
