Meghan Markle was reportedly baptized ahead of the royal wedding
Meghan Markle has reportedly been baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury in a secret ceremony with her fiancé Prince Harry at her side.
With just over two months to go until the royal wedding, the bride-to-be took part in an intimate 45-minute service at the Chapel Royal on Tuesday evening.
According to the Daily Mail, only 18 guests were present at the ceremony, including Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
It is believed that Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Queen Elizabeth II were not in attendance.
It has been reported that Markle had her confirmation following the service, meaning she will be able to join her future husband at Holy Communion if she desires.
The water that was used for the baptism was said to have come from the royal family font.
The baptism, which formally introduces Markle into the Anglican faith, was not required in order for the soon-to-be royal to marry in church, but it is understood it was something she was keen to do.
Though Markle attended a Catholic school, she is actually a Protestant. And she’s not the first royal bride to have a pre-wedding religious ceremony. Following her engagement, Middleton was also baptized before having a private confirmation.
The Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace was the setting for Prince George’s christening, and was the where Princess Diana’s body lay before her funeral.
News of the secret baptism follows reports that Markle also celebrated her bachelorette party over the weekend. It is thought the 36-year-old former Suits star spent the day getting pampered with her closest friends at a secret spa location.
