Meghan Markle Is Reportedly Seriously Considering Having a Home Birth
Meghan Markle is days away from welcoming her and Prince Harry’s first child. At this point, the Palace has not released any official details on where the baby will be born or what the world should expect when Baby Sussex arrives. But the Daily Mail’s royal correspondent Rebeca English got some intel from friends of the Duchess of Sussex that she and Harry are seriously considering having a midwife-led home birth at their new Frogmore Cottage home for privacy and comfort.
English’s sources stressed that the couple "haven’t ruled out a hospital delivery," especially because women over 35 have an increased risk of premature birth or need for an epidural or caesarean. Meghan is 37.
But one of Meghan’s friends said that the Duchess is in good health, has "sailed" through her pregnancy, and sees no reason why she couldn’t safely have a home birth. "It is her favored choice, but it obviously depends on how things are nearer the time," the source said of her and Harry's final decision.
English reports that the couple "quickly ruled out" the option of using the private Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, where Kate Middleton delivered all three of her children, and Princess Diana delivered her two. Allegedly to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it felt like too much of a "goldfish bowl." Meghan was also not interested in posing with her new baby on the steps of Lindo Wing in front of media and the public just hours after giving birth, like Diana and Kate did before her. Kate and Diana's children are in the direct line of succession; Meghan and Harry's will not be, so they have a little more freedom.
