Meghan Markle Has a Simple Strategy for Battling Shyness
The Duchess of Sussex had quite the day this Thursday. Not only were her first four royal patronages were announced, but she made a surprise appearance at Smart Works, one of the organizations now under her purview.
Smart Works's mission is to provide clothing and coaching for interviews to unemployed women. As interviewing notoriously stressful experience, strategies for performing under pressure naturally came up as a topic of conversation.
According to royal reporter Emily Nash, Meghan Markle gave a candid explanation of how she deals with the stress of being in the spotlight-particularly before her royal wedding last year, when the media scrutiny was at a fever pitch. "The most important thing is to just breathe and have that inner confidence," Meghan told the women at Smart Works. The simple trick certainly seems to work for the Duchess, who always appears composed and poised during her copious public engagements.
Apparently, this isn't the only advice Meghan has given the organization's members. Per the royal family's website, "The Duchess has visited Smart Works several times over the last year where she has worked with many women who have benefited from the charity’s support, helping them through coaching and interview preparation."
While two of Meghan's new patronages were previously in Queen Elizabeth's portfolio, Smart Works is an entirely new organization for the royal family to support. It certainly fits within the Duchess's avowed passion for women's rights and empowerment-an agenda that's she's managed to underscore even in her short time as a Duchess.
