Meghan Markle's designer friend might have just dropped a huge royal wedding hint
Meghan Markle has chosen California-born Claire Ptak, a pastry chef previously featured on the actress’s lifestyle blog, the Tig, to bake her wedding cake. So will the future royal be calling on another familiar face to make her gown for the May 19 nuptials? Maybe — if a Misha Nonoo marketing email serves as evidence.
Alexander McQueen, Roland Mouret, Stewart Parvin, and Inbal Dror have been reported as top contenders to design Markle’s wedding dress, but that was before designer Misha Nonoo, Prince Harry and Markle’s mutual friend, positioned herself as a bridal designer on Monday.
Nonoo, who’s reportedly responsible for setting Markle and Prince Harry up, sent out an email via her brand highlighting two of her popular jumpsuits: The Magdelena and Chiara. And while her one-pieces are key styles she’s known for thanks to famous fans like Emma Watson and Bella Hadid, they’ve never technically been considered bridal — until now.
“Say ‘I Do’ With MN,” the email read. “Walk down the aisle with an unforgettable timeless MN piece. Modern silhouettes inspired by classic styles, The Magdelena and Chiara jumpsuits will have you saying ‘I do’ in style.”
While many assume Markle will either go with something like Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s slinky satin gown (which she has said was her all-time favorite celebrity wedding dress) or something more conservative a-la Kate Middleton’s Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, could she shock everyone in a jumpsuit?
It wouldn’t be the first time Markle surprised people in pants. When the couple made their first official appearance together at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Markle chose a casual outfit. During the second day of the games, she opted for a $185 Misha Nonoo white button-down shirt called the Husband half-tucked into a pair of Mother’s Love Gun skinny jeans ($114), which feature one ripped knee. And, earlier this year, for her first black tie function since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry in November, the 36-year-old was expected to step out wearing a ballgown. Instead, Markle opted for a black pantsuit, looking utterly professional and powerful in the black and white getup.
So, wearing a gorgeous white jumpsuit for her wedding wouldn’t be completely out of character, but it would definitely be untraditional. Could she get the queen to sign off on such a modern ensemble? We will have to wait and see.
