Meghan McCain receives flak for her version of marriage counseling: 'Drinking Jack Daniels, shooting some guns'
Meghan McCain is receiving criticism for a recent comment she made while interviewing 2020 Democratic candidate Andrew Yang involving her "version of marriage counseling," which some believe to be "insensitive" and "horribly, horribly WRONG."
During his appearance on The View on Monday, Yang answered questions regarding his stance on universal healthcare, Universal Basic Income, and stipend for any couple who seeks out marriage counseling. McCain called many of his stances "unusual and unorthodox," but the daytime talk show host's comment of marriage counseling is now drawing ire from social media users, including domestic violence survivors.
When asked about his belief of free marriage counseling in the United States, Yang responded, "The data shows that if you grow up in a two-parent household, certain outcomes are more likely. So from a societal perspective, it makes perfect sense to keep couples together if they want to stay together."

“My version of marriage counseling is drinking Jack Daniels, shooting some guns and hanging out,” McCain said. “This universal peg for every hole is always my problem with the left right now. Every American is different, every American does things in different ways."
Social media was quick to call McCain out for her ill-advised form of marriage counseling.
#TheView enough now you need reprimand @MeghanMcCain for her insensitive comment on what her idea of marriage counseling is. Joke or not I’m sure there are many viewers that have lost a loved one for that exact reasoning. It’s bad enough she gets away with her constant rudeness.

I’m sorry, @MeghanMcCain on @TheView , but your marriage counseling therapy of drinking and guns would go horribly, horribly WRONG in sooo many cases...

Did Megan McCain just say Jack Daniels and guns are her solutions for troubled marriages...in a country where over 10 million women and men are subjected to domestic violence every year? Why is she allowed to talk? #TheView

Dear @MeghanMccain
As a survivor of domestic violence I can assure you that guns and booze would of resulted in me getting shot.
You are garbage.
But I had access to free counselling/safety courses through my gov.
I got help.
You need it #theview— Miah Pinionne (@Miah_Pinionne) July 8, 2019
You owe a serious apology to families and victims of gun violence in marriages/families.
Your lack of empathy was so outrageous you should step down now and go be tribal with your party you poor caged animal.— Miah Pinionne (@Miah_Pinionne) July 8, 2019
According to Violence Policy Center, guns are used to kill women in 53 percent of intimate partner homicides. Domestic violence victims are five times more likely to be killed if their abuser has access to a gun, one study shows.
