Meghan McCain calls out Elle headline about her 'bad week': 'This seems particularly s*****'
Meghan McCain is speaking out about a ‘particularly sh****’ headline on Elle magazine’s August 2019 cover and calling the publication out for not doing a better job of “lifting other women up.”
The View co-host took to her Twitter on Sunday to make mention of the way that her exclusive interview was editorialized after noticing that the headline featured on the cover wasn’t so flattering.
I somehow missed "Meghan McCain is having a bad week" was the headline @ELLEmagazine used on their cover? Wow...just given the past year (and months) I've had this seems particularly shitty... I guess this is why people don't talk to journalists and never tell them anything real. https://t.co/XKk50aZSbE

“I somehow missed ‘Meghan McCain is having a bad week’ was the headline @ELLEmagazine used on their cover?” the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain tweeted. “Wow...just given the past year (and months) I’ve had this seems particularly sh****.”
She went on to suggest that the insensitive headline is likely why “people don’t talk to journalists and never tell them anything real.” However, people were quick to point out that McCain actually said those words herself. Some even called her out for playing the victim.
You said those exact words in your interview! pic.twitter.com/8oV7UAEgXM

It's a quote from you, and it ends the article. Just saying.

Do you EVER tire of playing the victim card?

Still, the 34-year-old channeled her disappointment to share a message with her hundreds of thousands of followers about grief and her decision to be so open throughout her grieving process.
Also, to anyone else who has ever had a bad week (or more) as I have. Don't let magazines like @ELLEmagazine shame you to be honest & open- never be embarrassed to talk or share grief, pain, real life, struggle. I thank God there are so many resources and people out there to help

I also want to say I am 14 days away from the anniversary of my dads death and petrified of what the day is going to feel like. I made a conscious choice to share my grief journey publicly so others would feel less alone - and would do it all over again.

“I made a conscious choice to share my grief journey publicly so others would feel less alone,” she wrote, “and would do it all over again.”
Ultimately, she was upset that it was a women’s magazine in particular that decided to cash in on her vulnerability and seemingly tear her down.
Anyways, I'm going back to my husband and Wyoming. I realize a this is a small thing in the scheme of things but I just don't know why women's magazines don't do a better job trying to lift other women up, especially in 2019 (even if you disagree with their politics).

McCain retweeted some people who supported her message.
@ELLEmagazine you should be ashamed. Did you even attempt to reach out to @MeghanMcCain before writing this crap on the cover of your magazine or did you just use her name to bait readers into buying this garbage? A women’s magazine that trashes women belongs in the trash. pic.twitter.com/hoOmEj24X6

I don't agree with your politics, but shame on Elle and their poor timing. How about not shaming women period? Are we not allowed to have bad days, weeks, or even months? Life happens. Support each other.

I love you ?? https://t.co/trkBpiP9D5

@MeghanMcCain Hi Meghan, I am sorry about the elle interview. People are meaner than they have ever been, and you can't trust anyone. I do not always agree with you, but I know your heart is in the right place. If you are going thru hell, don't stop.

Still, some argued that McCain might not be in the best position to slam the publication.
I agree with you, but you drag other women all the time. Don’t play this card when it’s convenient for you. If you really believe these words, live by them.

YOU yourself haven't done a great job of uplifting women. Start with the woman in the mirror first!
— Venia McFadden (@McfaddenVenia) August 12, 2019
Anyone who chooses to live a public life is open to everything. Good, bad, dishonest, critical. It’s just the way it is. I have heard you say things about other women just as misleading and unfair.

Elle has not publicly acknowledged McCain’s take on the headline. However, the television personality had already addressed some issues she had with the article after it first came out in its entirety on July 25. She even made mention in the article about Republicans being portrayed as “evil” by the media and called out the magazine for “editorializing.”
Just thought you were my best friend/brother and don’t know why this need editorializing this way... 🤷🏼?♀? https://t.co/ODqJLIy4HM
