Meghan McCain on Chris Cuomo altercation: 'Men get to be tough and swear, women are unhinged'
Since news broke that CNN host Chris Cuomo was involved in an altercation in which he lashed out at a heckler who called him “Fredo” — a Godfather reference which Cuomo and CNN have decried as an “ethnic slur” — people have been rushing to take sides.
While President Trump’s Tuesday morning tweets mocked Cuomo, Fox News’s Sean Hannity emerged as an unexpected defender of the rival network news host, who he feels “deserves [an] apology.” Meghan McCain, meanwhile, is pointing out what she sees as a double standard.
McCain neither explicitly defended nor criticized Cuomo, who angrily says, “I’ll f****** ruin your s***. I'll f****** throw you down these stairs" in video footage of the confrontation. She did, however, insist that “not one woman in ALL of media” would get away with having an “obscenity-filled tirade” caught on camera. Though critics, including the president, have called for Cuomo to face repercussions for his reaction to the heckler, a CNN spokesperson says “we completely support him.”
“Men get to be tough and swear,” McCain tweeted, “women are ‘unhinged.’”
However you feel about Chris Cuomo’s behavior today, there’s not one woman in ALL of media who could be filmed in public on an obscenity filled tirade and be supported by their network and public the way he is right now. Men get to be tough and swear, women are “unhinged”...

McCain herself is certainly no stranger to being hit with the “unhinged” label, as the Republican’s impassioned debates on The View have frequently come under fire for coming across as bratty, according to some viewers. It’s a label she’s pushed back against, including slamming a “s*****” headline run by Elle for her recent interview with the women’s magazine.
Former NRATV host Dana Loesch — fresh off last week’s Twitter feud with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of Morning Joe — doubled down by saying that women with conservative views get even more flak.

While many agreed with her point, plenty of commenters backed Cuomo or claimed that McCain and fellow female conservatives like Laura Ingraham deserve whatever negative attention they receive. Others accused her of trying to make the Cuomo case about her.
ITS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU!! I can’t stand Cuomo but the way you spun this and made it about you is ridiculous.

That's interesting. If someone asked me to describe @TheView using one word, I would probably say "unhinged". Yet it has remained on the air for years. 😉

Your performance on The View is frequently unhinged.

Same with Jeannine Piro.

CNN is now having to hire security (prob insurance mandated) due to death threats etc. So being high strung and on edge when approached with your family... completely understand it.

McCain’s complaint echoes one she made in May, in which she hit out at conservative women being portrayed as “hysterical.”
Just curious if there is any conservative woman in media who isn't considered "hysterical" when presenting their view point? Or are passionate women in general always "hysterical"?

Meanwhile, Cuomo has since issued a mea culpa of sorts, saying he “should be better than the guys baiting me.”
Appreciate all the support but - truth is I should be better than the guys baiting me. This happens all the time these days. Often in front of my family. But there is a lesson: no need to add to the ugliness; I should be better than what I oppose.
