Melania Trump trolled after announcing Be Best plans to 'better the lives of children everywhere': 'Is she for real?'
While President Trump is busy shooting down writer E. Jean Carroll’s claims that he sexually assaulted her in the mid-’90s, the first lady is throwing herself into work.
On Monday, Melania Trump announced that she will be expanding her Be Best program — which tackles children’s issues, cyberbullying and opioid addiction — by appointing 21 Be Best ambassadors from various government agencies to, according to a press statement, “help further the first lady’s goal of educating children and parents about the issues they face, and promoting programs and services available to help them with today’s challenges.”
Looking forward to collaborating with all of our #BeBest Ambassadors. Delighted to be working alongside so many people both inside and outside of government to better the lives of children everywhere!https://t.co/VXxwgg6DFz

Though supporters have championed the first lady’s work, Be Best has also frequently been criticized by those who say it’s hypocritical of FLOTUS to fight bullying without speaking out against her husband’s own controversial online behavior.
But the timing of her latest Be Best announcement — which comes just days after new reports highlighting the harrowing and inhumane conditions faced by migrant children at border detention centers that have been compared by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to concentration camps — has renewed criticism. In particular, Trump’s line about working to “better the lives of children everywhere” raised eyebrows, with critics calling her “tone-deaf” and citing the border conditions.

I hear it improves children’s lives not to be held in concentration camps.

It’s really hard for a person to drill down and explain the term “irony” to people; many thanks .@FLOTUS for that riveting real life demonstration.

She’s not tone deaf. She knows exactly what she is doing. She is trolling all of us. It’s a game for her.

Everywhere!? Really?
The tone deafness and sociopathic behavior from everyone in this administration is staggering sometimes.— Dana Goldberg (@DGComedy) June 24, 2019
Oh!! She never meant THOSE children!! 😡

Actor George Takei, who has compared the detention centers to the internment camps he spent time in as a Japanese-American child during World War II, accused the first lady of “trolling” the public.
Is she just trolling us now? https://t.co/V6LEplJa9q

This latest Be Best controversy comes nearly a year to the day since Trump notoriously wore a jacket with the message “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” on the back while traveling to meet migrant children in detention centers.
