Melania Trump Is a Big Fan of Sleeveless Jumpsuits
Melania Trump dressed for comfort in a navy blue jumpsuit with a red-and-blue floral-print scarf to visit art students on Friday.
The first lady and Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese president Xi Jinping toured the Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida around 11 a.m. According to the Palm Beach Post, the two women received a personal tour by Superintendent Robert Avossa and listened to 80 children performing the song “Astonishing” (reportedly about female empowerment) and a set by the school’s symphonic band. After the hour-long visit, Trump and Liyuan headed off to lunch at Mar-a-Largo.
Melania’s love for jumpsuits has been well-documented — on election night on Nov. 8, the first lady wore a $3,990 white, one-shoulder Ralph Lauren Collection Margerie Silk Jumpsuit. The color of the jumpsuit made headlines for its association with suffragettes, women in the 19th and 20th centuries who fought for women’s rights to vote. It’s also the color that Hillary Clinton and her supporters wore to the polls on Election Day.
At the Oct. 16 debate between President Donald Trump and Clinton, Melania choose a $1,790 sleeveless, black Sheryl Tie-Front Jumpsuit by Ralph Lauren (a.k.a., a “pussy bow” jumpsuit) and carried an Alexander McQueen clutch.
Plenty of designers have refused to dress the first family — Zac Posen, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs — however, Lauren has not, even sparking the hashtag #BoycottRalphLauren after Melania wore a powder blue dress and jacket by the designer on Inauguration Day.
