Melania Trump heads to Malawi in a $745 dress as protesters greet her with #MeToo-inspired signs
Melania Trump certainly seems to have settled on a theme for her travel wardrobe in Africa: safari chic.
With the exception of a striped Celine shirtdress she wore for her arrival in Ghana on Tuesday, the first lady has stayed true to earth tones, neutrals, and animal prints for her 4-country, 5-day journey.
Following Wednesday’s utilitarian khaki and army green pieces paired with snakeskin loafers, FLOTUS has moved on to Malawi in yet another look seemingly ripped from Ernest Hemingway’s photo album.
The 48-year-old stepped out in a camel-hued, button-down Warren dress from Joseph for the second leg of her trip, which will also take her to Kenya and Egypt. Priced at $745, the crepe de chine number was paired with a slim brown belt and suede heels.
Her most significant accessories, however, were the Be Best-branded tote bags loaded with school supplies that she gave to teachers at the Chipala Primary School in Lilongwe. The first lady reportedly donated soccer balls and textbooks at other points on her trip.

But the excursion wasn’t without controversy. As CNN reporter Kate Bennett tweeted, a small group of protesters — who may or may not have been Americans living near the U.S. embassy — held up signs with #MeToo-inspired slogans as Trump drove past. Another sign reportedly referenced President Trump’s notorious remark about “s***hole countries.”
Driving to next destination passed a group of people holding signs saying things like, “Welcome to Malawi, #NotAShithole!” and “#MElaniaToo!” A #MeToo sign using Melania’s name.

Three of the 5 or 6 people holding signs were white and our embassy attaché on the press bus tells me the neighborhood is near the embassies area, lots of Americans in the mix living there…
