Melania Trump channels Ivanka in polka dot dress at Congressional Picnic
Melania Trump was pretty in polka dots at the White House Congressional Picnic, borrowing a similar look recently worn by stepdaughter Ivanka.
For the Friday outdoor luncheon, Melania wore a demure navy-and-white polka-dot dress with a bright-white belt and $775 white Christian Louboutin heels, according to Footwear News.
The Congressional Picnic is an annual White House event and this year, its theme was “Summer Solstice,” held on the longest day of the year. Members of Congress and their families snacked on cotton candy and popcorn and fancier fare such as rib-eye steak and homemade dessert. “My husband and I are looking forward to tomorrow’s Congressional Picnic,” Melania said in a White House press release. “It’s an opportunity for elected officials to put aside differences and come together as a community.”
President Trump reportedly joked, “We've never had a better-looking crowd, I must say,” during a speech on the White House South Lawn.
Melania’s polka-print was pretty much identical to a $1,400 blue-and-white polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich, worn by Ivanka in 2018 to visit a steel plant in Illinois with the president.
Others have hopped on the polka-dot trend as well — Suits star Abigail Spencer wore an ankle-length version by Alessandra Rich to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding. Later that year, Kate Middleton wore the same dress while celebrating father-in-law Prince Charles’s 70th birthday — and again this past year for a D-Day exhibition at Bletchley Park in England.
