Melania Trump joins Pantsuit Nation and social media reacts: She looks like 'an independent woman'
Melania Trump wore a power suit, and people on social media are losing their minds.
With one hand in her trouser pocket, the first lady accompanied the president to the General Assembly in the United Nations building in New York City on Tuesday wearing a $1,995 Calvin Klein gray, double-breasted glen plaid wool blazer with houndstooth pants, a black top, and black pumps.

If it looks familiar, it’s because it just made its debut at New York Fashion Week last week.
Social media gave the 47-year-old’s business attire a thumbs-up, with many tweeting that she looked polished and professional, a departure from feedback in recent weeks.
Wow, Melania looks incredible in a suit; don't @ me

@MELANIATRUMP looking like an independent woman in a pant power suit. Not First Lady like at all. Separating herself gradually? #UNGA

Sarah Palin even approved of the ensemble.

According to CNN, President Trump remarked in a speech to 100 world leaders that the United States would “totally destroy North Korea” if forced; and in reference to leader Kim Jong Un, Trump added, “Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself.”
Of Melania’s presence on Tuesday, Laura Bush’s former chief of staff, Anita McBride, told Inside Edition, “Here is the one thing to remember about first ladies — everyone gets to rewrite the playbook according to the rules that they want to live by. I think for Mrs. Trump’s part, she set an early marker that she was going to do this on her timetable and her way.”
In late August, en route to Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Melania boarded Air Force One wearing a pair of Manolo Blahnik stilettos, sparking outrage from the public, many people deeming the shoe choice out of touch and inappropriate.
The backlash even prompted Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communications director, to tell the New York Times, “It’s sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes.”
Blahnik himself came to Melania’s defense on Monday, telling Harper’s Bazaar UK, “I don’t think she’s insensitive. I think she’s working nonstop to make it work — possibly she was just wearing the shoes she left New York in. Yes, I think probably she could have worn Hunter boots, but she was wearing what she was wearing. I’m not good at advising people on what to wear because they wear what they want to.”
The first lady received higher marks when landing in Houston wearing black skinny jeans, a white button-down shirt, and white sneakers. However, soon after, on a return trip to Texas, she wore another pair of Manolo Blahnik heels — snakeskin this time — which she paired with a Ralph Lauren shirtdress.
And on Friday, Melania raised eyebrows by wearing a $7,995 metallic silver gown by Monique Lhuillier, only hours after returning from Florida to view the devastation by Hurricane Irma.
