Melania Trump wears a cherry-red skirt for Hispanic Heritage Month
Melania Trump wore a bright red skirt with a flirty mermaid hem for an event honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
The First Lady accentuated the cherry-red piece with a fitted white sweater and scarlet heels at the White House on Friday. But while the aim of the day was to honor the cultural and economic contributions made by Hispanic-Americans, it wasn’t without controversy.
During a speech about the catastrophic damages inflicted on Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria, President Trump spoke with a stereotypical Spanish accent as he said, “We are also praying for the people of Puerto Rico. We love Puerto Rico. …” earning him criticism on social media.
As a Spanish teacher with the utmost respect for all aspects of the language-this is disgraceful. #moron https://t.co/j2KMm3RZYf

This is Melania as Trump mocked the Spanish language.
Reminder: She herself speaks with an accent. Can’t imagine she was thrilled. pic.twitter.com/dxkgfOTP63

On Wednesday night, the first couple returned from a trip to Puerto Rico and also Las Vegas, where they visited victims of the mass shooting at a country music festival that left 58 people dead and hundreds wounded, according to CNN.
After the couple returned at night, Melania was mocked on social media for wearing sunglasses as she walked across the White House lawn in the dark.
Everyone is asking the same question about Melania Trump's sunglasses https://t.co/uOqOJ2Iwuy

I'm making a public plea to Melania Trump: stop with the sunglasses (and the heels at disaster areas).

They're MAKING Melania wear those damn sunglasses even at night, so she can't blink twice & let us know she needs help. #TrueFact

The couple’s trip to Puerto Rico was also marred by scandal. The president’s decision to throw paper towels to people in the crowd at the Calvary Chapel in Guaynabo like a basketball player came under fire, as did the stiletto heels Melania wore en route to the island (she deplaned wearing Timberland boots).
In other style news, after Trump criticized San Juan mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for “poor leadership” and “nasty” behavior toward his administration, Cruz responded on Wednesday by wearing a shirt with the word “Nasty” written on it during a Univision interview. A few days before, she wore a shirt with the phrase, “Help Us We Are Dying.”
