Melania Trump wears gown with sheer shoulders to state banquet at Buckingham Palace
First lady Melania Trump wore a white Dior Haute Couture gown to the state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Monday evening.
According to Stephanie Grisham, FLOTUS’s Director of Communications, the custom dress is made from ivory silk crepe and features silk tulle detailing. The sheer material on her shoulders gave off the illusion of showing off some skin. She accessorized with white evening gloves and had her hair styled in an updo.
This is the First Lady’s fourth outfit of the trip so far.
She left the U.S. in a $4,400 Gucci city print dress. The dress was a not-so-subtle nod to her impending visit, with the print including London landmarks in orange and green.
Upon arriving in London, she disembarked Air Force One in a silk scarf-print blouse ($890) from the famed British fashion brand Burberry. She changed mid-flight and paired the blouse with a Michael Kors navy skirt suit.
For afternoon tea with the Queen, the first lady chose a white and navy long-sleeved dress by Dolce and Gabbana, topped off with a bespoke hat by Hervé Pierre.
Many on social media compared the look to the Ascot ensemble worn by Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle in the 1964 film My Fair Lady.
