Melania Trump wore $4,000 Gucci coat to greet Poland's first couple — despite the 80-degree heat
Melania Trump cloaked herself in a double-breasted wool coat by Gucci to host Poland’s first couple at the White House on Tuesday.
Despite the near-80-degree weather in Washington, D.C. — a detail that Twitter jumped on — the first lady wrapped up in the $3,980 ivory coat with navy lapels and cuffs for the visit. To kick things off, Melania, President Trump, and Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, who wore a white, belted blazer with black trousers, posed for photos.
Melania was also photographed wearing the coat as she sat inside the White House, revealing a hint of her navy blue dress, before eating lunch with Kornhauser-Duda and attending a press conference in the East Room, according to the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, the two presidents are slated to discuss trade, the military, and energy in a press conference.
In 2017, during a ceremony at Krasinski Square in Poland, a greeting between these two couples got awkward when President Trump extended his hand to greet Kornhauser-Duda and the Polish first lady instead bypassed him to connect with Melania. President Trump’s hand was left dangling in the air for a few seconds, a moment critics called a “snub” on social media, although the fumble was probably a misunderstanding.
In only a few weeks, all eyes will once again be on Melania, as she is scheduled to depart for Africa on her first solo trip as the first lady. “This will be my first time traveling to Africa and I am excited to educate myself on the issues facing children throughout the continent, while also learning about its rich culture and history,” she said in an August statement, according to CNN. “We are a global society and I believe it is through open dialogue and the exchanging of ideas that we have a real opportunity to learn from one another.”
