Memorial cornhole tournament raises funds for scholarships

OLNEY — The Ashlee Martens Memorial Art Scholarship Cornhole Tournament and Fundraiser, a family-friendly event, takes place Saturday at The Big O Saloon.

The doors open and registration begins at 11 a.m. The tournament, with both competitive and casual divisions, starts at noon. The cost is $40 per team. There will also be a raffle, and hats and shirts for sale.

The event is in honor of Martens, a graduate of Astoria High School and the Art Institute of Portland. She was a graphic designer with a passion for art, and determination to achieve her goals.

The purpose of the event is to help other students who share that same passion. Started in 2017, the annual fundraiser has awarded $14,000 in scholarships to local graduating seniors who are pursuing a future in design art or art therapy.
