Memphis-based restaurant known as the 'Godfather of Hot Wings' opens in Jacksonville

Self-described as "The Godfather of Hot Wings,” Memphis-based D'bo's Daiquiris, Wings & Seafood is now open at 901 King St. in historic Riverside.

The restaurant, which takes over the spot vacated by Jazzy's Restaurant and Lounge in August 2023, is the first D'bo's in Florida for the chain, which has two restaurants in Memphis and one each in Atlanta and Detroit. A Winterhaven location is listed on the restaurant's corporate website as coming soon.

At its King Street entertainment district location, D'Bo's joins established restaurants Kickbacks Gastropub, Carmines Pie HousePie95 PizzaLola's Burrito & Burger JointCool Moose CafeDon Eduardo Cocina MexicanaPattaya Thai on KingPrimi Piatti and Sumo Sushi.

D’bo’s promises “the best damn hot wings” at its restaurants. But it also offers seafood, burgers and more.

The Riverside restaurant's menu lists "party wing" prices from $8 for five pieces to $14 for 10 pieces, $27 for 20 pieces and $40 for 30 pieces. Whole wings are $14 for five, $27 for 10, $40 for 15, and $53 for 20 pieces, the menu shows.

D'bo's also offers about 20 sauces and dry seasonings including several made in-house.

Signature menu offerings include:

  • Lobster & Shrimp Platter ($37): One lobster and 10 shrimp with one sweet corn, two potatoes, and a sausage

  • Ultimate Crab Platter ($52): One crab cluster, one lobster tail, 10 shrimp with one sweet corn, two potatoes, and one sausage

  • Catfish Basket ($15): Three fried catfish strips with a side

  • Fish & Wing Platter ($27): Five whole wings, three fish filet strips with one side

  • Shrimp & Wing Platter ($29): 10 shrimp, five whole wings, and a side

  • 12-Piece Boneless Wings ($17) Comes with a side

The menu lists eight burger choices, including the Jive Turkey Burger ($12), Checkered Cow ($15) and The Blue Jay Burger ($23). Sandwiches ($12) include a Shrimp or Catfish Po Boy, Philly Cheesesteak or a fried chicken filet.

D'Bo's also offers a weekend brunch menu featuring Catfish & Grits ($18), Shrimp & Grits ($17), Catfish $ Waffles ($16), and French Toast with a choice of meat ($15), according to its online menu.

On the cocktail side, a rotating selection of frozen daiquiris are featured as well as craft cocktails, beer and wine.

Restaurants: What's new or coming soon to Jacksonville's downtown, San Marco, Five Points

D'bo's founders David and Leticia Boyd launched the chicken wing restaurant as a food truck in August 1990 after crafting homemade wing sauces and dry seasonings. As its popularity grew they opened their first brick-and-mortar location in Memphis and then began franchising.

D'bo's is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
