Men dressed as Confederate soldiers allegedly hand children bullets at Arkansas Christmas parade
At a Christmas parade in Springdale, Ark., children of all ages were treated to the magic of the season with floats featuring everyone’s Christmas favorites: Santa, Mrs. Claus and Confederate soldiers. One of these things is not like the other…
One of the floats featured in the parade was a trailer decked out in Christmas lights, pulled by a pickup truck. The only thing unusual about the particular float was that the Confederate flag flew on the front and there were two men dressed as Confederate soldiers — one holding a rifle — riding on the back. According to the Kansas City Star, the float belonged to the Arkansas Sons of Confederate Veterans.
One would assume that the Confederate soldiers would be on St. Nick’s naughty list since, instead of candy, which other floats were giving out during the festive night, they allegedly handed out real bullets to kids.
A person who goes by the name of Thunder Man on Facebook shared a video of the incident on Saturday.
In the video, children can be heard asking for candy. The man with the rifle replied, “I got bullets. Want bullets?”
A voice is heard saying, “Why do you have a rifle with a bayonet on it?”
“I’m looking for Yankees!” the man said.
At one point, a person yelled out, “Y’all fighting for slavery?” And one of the men yelled back, “No!”
The parade’s sponsor, Rodeo of the Ozarks, say it does not evaluate floats before the parade, and board members have not discussed how to handle what happened on Saturday.
