This Mermaid Dog Is Absolutely Hair #Goals
The internet loves celebrating exceptional animals, like this cat that's visited all 59 state parks or this dog with the perfect beachy waves with caramel highlights. The latest installment of this fascinating micro genre: Some incredible underwater hairspiration, from one of mankind's canine friends.
Discovered by Allure weekend editor Rosemary Donahue, the video was posted to the account @klarna, which appears to collect aesthetically-pleasing images and videos. It's not clear where the original dog video comes from, but that's almost secondary to that hair.
That jellyfish-like undulating hair, which is like a cross between Cousin It and Chewbacca and really nice extensions. That winged and wavy waterbound silhouette. The totally pleased look on the dog's face. (As for the dog itself, it's probably an afghan hound, per Allure.)
It's already common practice to bring a photo of your preferred cut into a salon, but is it possible for a stylist to help replicate this haircare commercial-ready look? There's only one way to find out.
Update 9/30, 6:25 p.m.: Alas, nothing gold can last in this cruel world. The Daily Dot reached out to Klarna, which is apparently a company that handles online payments with a taste for Instagram #aesthetics, and chief marketing officer David Sandstr?m shared, "People have emailed us saying they want one and asking where they can get one."
But the joke's on people who were captivated by this dog, because... the dog isn't real. The entire video is an animation, made for a Klarna ad campaign:
Sandstr?m and his team were counting on people relating to the creature's silky hair smoothness to garner conversation: "My team is super excited about this. We’re really happy that people are sharing it."
As for what the creature actually is? Its ambiguity is part of its charm: "We want to create a feeling of, 'What the fuck is this?' It’s important to us that people don’t understand what it is. The internet loves strange things. The internet loves weird."
