The Oscars may not have a #TimesUp dress code, but the simultaneous arrival of Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino on the red carpet made a powerful statement.
The women, who have been considered trailblazers in the #MeToo movement, pleasantly surprised viewers by timing their arrival on the red carpet.

The two actresses were among the first to come out against the film producer Harvey Weinstein, claiming that he derailed their careers after they refused to succumb to his pressure to have a physical relationship with him. Judd, 49, detailed her account of sexual harassment in the New York Times‘s first report against Weinstein, describing a meeting in his hotel room that turned inappropriate. Just a few days later, Sorvino, 50, shared her experience, which was eerily similar to Judd’s.
The actresses were validated in their claims that they were blacklisted and blocked from roles in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings by Jackson himself, who said he was submitting to Weinstein’s wishes. And to judge by their red carpet appearance (Judd wore a bespoke ring honoring the Time’s Up movement) and statements to reporters, it’s evident that the two actresses are now thriving.

“Being yourself and being truthful has turned out to be the best thing you could be, even though it was superscary,” Sorvino said in a red carpet interview with ABC.
“We don’t just warn our children you have to be able to navigate this thing. Instead, you’re going to be teaching them this is what you should expect from yourself, this is what’s not OK,” she told Yahoo. “We’re building infrastructure to change rape culture, to change sexual harassment culture.” She added, “There’s so many wonderful things happening right now. …I’m just proud to be alive.”
Notably, the pair skipped speaking with Ryan Seacrest, who was accused of sexual misconduct publicly last week.
