Michael J. Fox Reflects on Wife's Support Amid Parkinson's Battle

Michael J. Fox isn't alone in his battle with Parkinson's—and he couldn't be more grateful.

During a recent interview, the actor, 61, took a moment to reflect on how his diagnosis affected his wife, Tracy Pollan.

"She has this disease too in a sense because I do," the Back to the Future star told CBC News on May 25. "Right from the beginning, before any of this happened, I took this young actress whose career was hopping, she was doing great, she was beautiful, and I made her a single mother and I took her out of the game."

For those unfamiliar with the couple, Fox and Pollan, now 62, met while playing love interests on Family Ties in 1985. By 1988, the two were married and went on to have four children together: Sam, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, and Esmé.

While Pollan continued to act, her main role was being a mother to her children. Because of this, Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 29, said, "I always felt bad about that and here I was doing it again with Parkinson’s, kind of superimposing my agenda and a trial on her that wasn’t hers to endure."

Fox has been quite candid about his Parkinson's battle in recent months, mostly in part due to the release of his Apple TV+ documentary, aptly titled Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.

In the project, which was released on May 12, Fox's career and journey with the incurable disease is examined closely.
