Michael Jackson Hollywood Biopic in the Works
Michael Jackson may have passed away in 2009, but stories about his life persist. And the legendary singer may be getting his biggest story yet very soon.
That’s because Universal has landed the rights to Michael, an ambitious Hollywood project that is said to be covering all aspects of Jackson's life. The film will be directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer), and stars Jackson‘s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop himself.
Although just how extensively the film will cover Jackson’s life is currently unknown. With the Jackson estate signing off on the project (John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate, co-produce the film), it’s unlikely to delve into the more controversial aspects.
“Michael’s decades-long career left an indelible mark on the way audiences experience entertainment all over the world,” said Joe Drake, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “We are thrilled to be partnering with our friends at Universal to give global audiences new insight into the complex life of one of the most prolific artists the world has ever known.”
Production is currently halted for now, but is set to continue when the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes. Before then, watch another divisive 20th century icon in action as the controversial Elvis film gets its first trailer.
