Michael Ketterer of ‘America’s Got Talent’ Won’t Face Charges After Domestic Violence Arrest
America’s Got Talent standout Michael Ketterer, who placed fifth in this season of the competition show, was arrested for domestic violence Thursday. (He said the arrest was a “misunderstanding” after he got into a fight with his wife in a hotel.) Now, TMZ reports Ketterer will not face charges related to the arrest, and instead will face a hearing at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
A representative for the L.A. City Attorney confirmed to GoodHousekeeping.com Ketterer won’t face charges. “The matter was referred to our office for review and subsequently set for a City Attorney hearing,” the spokesperson said.
A City Attorney hearing is a more informal process in which both parties involved tell their side of the story, and a hearing officer advises them on the law and how to avoid run-ins with the authorities in the future, Entertainment Tonight explains. The City Attorney’s office reserves the right to file charges within the year if more evidence comes up, but that normally doesn’t happen. These hearings are often used for low-level misdemeanors as an alternative to criminal prosecution, TMZ adds.
Ketterer was set to perform at Notre Dame with Garth Brooks, who wrote a song for him to perform during the America’s Got Talent finale. But Brooks told fans in a video that Ketterer won’t be joining him on stage now. “We decided it was better he not appear at Notre Dame and perform there,” Brooks said.
