Beyoncé Released a New Video for "Brown Skin Girl" Featuring Blue Ivy and Kelly Rowland

"It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown," Beyoncé said in a statement.

Even Beyoncé couldn't be spared from the dreaded yearbook photo in high school, and her longtime friend Michelle Williams is reminding her of that fact with a throwback to school picture day in honor of the singer turning 39 years old.

On Friday, the former Destiny's Child star took to Instagram to wish Beyoncé a happy birthday with a portrait from her freshman year at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas. In it, Bey is pictured sporting a major side part, face-framing layers, and the ultimate '90s calling card: hair clips.

"Bey always gets people with the baby pics or younger year type pics, so I thought I’d do the same," Williams began, adding the cry-laughing face emoji. She continued, "The awesome thing about this picture is that it causes me to reflect on how you KNEW who you wanted to be! You worked super hard and you are truly who you’ve always wanted to be!! I’m so honored to not only know who you’ve wanted to be as an artist and to experience that with you but an even greater joy to see the woman, sister and friend you continue to be!"

Embarrassment purposes aside, Williams acknowledged her sweet reason for posting the photo of Bey as a teen. "This pic can also serve as an encouragement of how everyone pretty much starts out the same way......there’s no way of dodging the corny school pictures unless you purposely skipped school picture day or maybe unfortunately not feeling well that day," she wrote, before signing off: "Happy Birthday Beyonce!!"

Who knew two decades after her freshman yearbook photo was taken that Beyoncé would become not only a chart-topping superstar, but also a selfless humanitarian? On her actual birthday on Sept. 3, in lieu of receiving gifts, Beyoncé celebrated the special occasion by donating $1 million to Black-owned businesses that have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic in partnership with the NAACP and her BeyGOOD Foundation.
