Michigan State Fair returns with circus, new farmer’s market, more: Here’s what to expect

Get ready to close out summer with a bang at the Michigan State Fair this weekend. There's something for everyone at the five-day fair, from a new farmer's market to a circus, beer festival and more.

Here's a look at what to know ahead of the 2024 Michigan State Fair.

When will the state fair be?

The 2024 state fair runs from Thursday to Monday, Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Each day will have packed programming, open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday-Sunday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

Where is the state fair?

The state fair will be held at the Suburban Collection Showcase at 46100 Grand River Ave. in Novi.

How much are tickets?

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the fair. Fair admission is $10 and children age 2 and under enter free. Ultimate admission includes fair admission, unlimited carnival rides and circus performances for $42.

A fair admission ticket can be upgraded to ultimate admission for $37 at the fair. Tickets can be purchased for the Detroit Shrine Circus at the tent for $22 per ticket.

Tickets for carnival rides can also be purchased individually at the event, with three to five tickets per person for each ride. Carnival rides cost $1.50 per ticket, 22 tickets for $30 or a family pack of 50 tickets for $60.

What are the top attractions?

  • Shrine Circus : The annual circus returns with four daily performances Thursday-Sunday and three daily performances Monday.

  • Flagstar Farmer's Market: This new attraction features a variety of local farmers from across Michigan selling produce, handmade goods and artisan treats from Thursday-Sunday.

  • Baking contests: There will be an adult and youth cookie contest Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sep. 1 at 2 p.m. there will be a King Arthur flour contest for adult cakes and youth cupcakes.

  • Blood drive: The fair will feature daily blood drives hosted by Versiti Blood Center of Michigan. Anyone in good health age 17 and above, or 16 with parental consent, weighing at least 110 pounds, or 120 for girls age 18 and under, can donate blood. Participants will get free fair admission and a $10 Kroger gift card. Prepare by avoiding alcohol and smoking, resting well and eating a nutritious meal.

  • Friday night flights beer festival: Friday, Aug. 30 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets to this 21 and over event cost $20, including fair admission, special event entry and 10 drink tickets.
