Miley Cyrus Says Getting Divorced from Liam Hemsworth Was "Like a Death"
Miley Cyrus has opened up about her divorce from Liam Hemsworth in a new interview.
The "Midnight Sky" singer revealed, "It’s like a death when you lose a love that deep."
She also opened up about her past relationships, sexuality, and what she's looking for in a partner.
Miley Cyrus is getting candid about her split from Liam Hemsworth. The couple was together, on and off, over a 10-year period, and their eventual split was understandably heartbreaking for both parties.
During an appearance on Barstool Sports’ Call Her Daddy podcast, Cyrus discussed her difficult divorce from Hemsworth and explained (via Yahoo!), "I had a very public, very big breakup that was over a 10-year span of a relationship... It’s like a death when you lose a love that deep. It feels like a death." For those of us that married and subsequently divorced our high school sweethearts, Cyrus' words are painfully relatable.
Cyrus continued, "Honestly, sometimes [death] even feels easier because [with a breakup] the person is still walking on the earth."
The "Wrecking Ball" performer also revealed that she rediscovered her sense of self following her separation from Hemsworth. As the "Slide Away" singer said, "Going though a massive breakup, one thing I gained through all the loss is an idea that what I do is for me."
As it turns out, Hemsworth was also the first guy that Cyrus slept with, having previously had sexual experiences with women. "I lied and said he wasn’t the first so I didn’t feel like a loser," Cyrus revealed, explaining that she kept the truth a secret from Hemsworth for 10 years.
The singer is also looking ahead to future relationships, following her split from Cody Simpson. As for what she's looking for in a new partner, Cyrus said, "I’ve been very experimental. I just really don’t have a type." Crucially, Cyrus needs someone who is also "living a sober lifestyle." "Don't go to the club looking for you next partner," she continued. "Put yourself in places where you’ll be successful. You can really control the flow of people in and out of your life."
