The need for gentleness and sensitivity inspired a range of soft and simple trims. Mohair, felt, corrugated cardboard, and crochet combine to tell a natural and balanced story. Colors like cinnamon, dry orange, red maple and polar fox give trims a warm and comforting feeling. Autumnal staples like herringbone and paisley come into play as well.
Minimalism shines through in labels with san serif fonts, embossed designs and tonal colorways. Flat metallics, clear glosses and stone-inspired textures add variety.
After a phase of understated luxury, trim manufacturers are being pulled toward bold and glamorous designs. Rich red and purple berry hues are contrasted with midnight blue and blacks. Finishes are glossy, sleek and metallic. Velvet and lace add a gothic vibe to the theme, while fringe and art deco hardware nod to the roaring twenties.
Designers are also looking to more playful and colorful trims as a form of escapism. These youth-driven trends include collegiate appliques, ombre ribbons, gingham and charms.
