Minnesota Salon Gives Rescue Dogs a 'Spa Day' in the Hopes of Getting Them Adopted

The Adore Dog Salon out of St.Louis Park, Minnesota is absolutely on Santa's nice list this year for pampering some deserving shelter dogs in hopes that these extreme dog makeovers will find these pups forever homes in time for the holidays.

The holiday makeover were given to a group of foster dogs from Underdog Rescue, a nonprofit rescue group also out of St.Louis Park.

Each of the dogs, who are currently living with foster families, received a bath and a haircut. Kare11 reports, "Kirsten Eitreim, a photographer and volunteer who has adopted two “Underdogs,” was there to take before and after photos of the dogs.

“They come out of just a bath and a blow dry and they already look 10 times better and it’s amazing,” Eitreim told KARE."

Why grooming shelter dogs makes a difference

A well-groomed dog has a greater chance of getting adopted than a dog with matting or skin-conditions. Grooming shelter dogs also helps socialize them in preparation for going to their forever homes because even though shelter workers and volunteers do their absolute best, it's impossible for them to give lots of undivided attention to every animal in their care.

Why professional photographs make a difference for shelter animals

A study showed  that a dog with a great quality photograph was typically adopted within 14 days compared to 43 days for a poor photo. Professional photographers know that a good photo will showcase a dog's adorable appearance and personality. If you are a photography hobbyist, most shelters would welcome your skills for photographing adoptable dogs and it's a fantastic way to volunteer.
