Mo’ Mobster: Where To See Maurice Benard Outside of General Hospital
General Hospital almost lost their favorite mobster when Sonny became the victim of an attempted assassination. He survived, of course. He’s Sonny. But should that happen again and GH fans are seized by the fear of not being able to see him on a daily basis, here are three other projects — and places — to get your Mo fix.
Laugh It Up
Before the feature film Being the Ricardos, starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem, there was the TV movie, Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter. Maurice played the Cuban bandleader who turned his marriage to a wacky redhead into a sitcom that still continues to bring in over twenty million dollars a year.
It wasn’t all fun and games, though. Desi cheated on Lucy, Lucy suffered miscarriages, and boy, did those two fight. It wasn’t nearly as funny as they made it seem on television. Frances Fisher (Suzette, Guiding Light) played Lucy. Watch them both in action, here.
Wicked Watch
Ever since Anne Baxter wormed her way into Bette Davis’ life in All About Eve, ambitious young women have been using her climb as a blueprint for their own success. This time around, it’s Heather Locklear going after not just Barbara Eden’t job, but also her husband and, well, her life.
Benard, who we recently interviewed, plays a cameraman named Steve in Her Wicked Ways. Steve doesn’t have much to do beyond pointing first his camera, then his finger at sometimes Eden, sometimes Locklear. He counts to three several times. He is very good at it. See for yourself via this not-particularly-great transfer to YouTube.
Practice Makes Perfect
When mafia princess Victoria Gotti required someone to play her cold-blooded father in the TV movie version of her book, My Father’s Daughter, she didn’t need to look any further than the man who’d made Sonny the most lovable killed on daytime.
From Port Charles Mafia don to New York City’s Teflon don. He mumbles, he murders, he mugs. It’s Sonny Corinthos — if he actually committed crimes rather than just threatening to. Watch on Lifetime!
