Style Me Pretty

Modern Ethereal Wedding at Toledo Glass Pavilion in Ohio

Melissa Baran

This celebration at Toledo Glass Pavilion is a little bit of everything wrapped into one... it's modern, yet has classic charm; it's ever so subtly ethereal, yet completely unfussy. There are moments like this that will make you want to go a little pin-crazy (have at it!) and ones like this, that'll give you all the warm and fuzzies for your own Big Day to come. Thanks to Jenna Nicole Photography, we can be inspired by all the beauty this fete has to offer.

From the Bride... Zachary and I were dating for five years before he popped the question on the wooden bridge at our favorite park, Wildwood, in Toledo, OH. Rewind five years prior on our first of many walks that we strolled, where we named the bridge ‘our spot’. The proposal was so sweet and simple. Zachary had planned a random Wednesday dinner reservation and told me that we needed to leave early because he wanted to go on a walk before dinner. As we walked down the path we had taken so many times before, he knelt on his knee and asked me to be his always. Of course, I said yes!The wedding design process was so special to me. It was a chance to incorporate our personalities into our wedding day and make it not only special for us, but for our families and friends as well. I had known for a very long time that I wanted to have a wedding that made guests and myself feel like they were in an ethereal, dreamy fairytale with a modern flair. Zachary and I researched venues online in the city where we met, as it only felt right to get married in the place that we fell in love. We landed at the Toledo Museum of Art- Glass Pavilion and we knew as soon as we walked in that we had found our place. With all walls being made of glass, it felt like we were in a glass palace with views of lush greenery; the perfect blend of a garden, modern wedding. Beautiful galleries guests could venture through during cocktail hour and a glass blowing demonstration, it would be equally special for guests to share in our day.My mother and I joke that the wedding process was not as strenuous as some might think; things fell into place after Zachary and I chose the venue. My mother and I planned many girls’ days where we designed the floral arrangements, color scheme, and invitation suite, to execute my vision of what the day would be like. One of my favorite memories of wedding planning was when Zachary and I took a day trip to meet with our wedding cake designer and baker, Wendy Kromer. My grandmother had instilled the love of baking within me and her gift to us was our wedding cake. When we walked in to Wendy’s studio on the lake, she allowed us to sample over a dozen cake flavors, frostings, curds, and preserves. We handpicked combinations of cake, ganache, frosting, and preserves for our wedding cake. It was the best day sharing smiles and cake with my love, and we couldn’t wait to share it with everyone on our big day.Another special element of the day was our wedding favors. As a child growing up, my parents would take my sister and I to art museums, exhibitions, and glass blowing demonstrations. My father took the initiative to have our favors hand made by a glass artist. He arranged for the favors to be crafted into small glass hearts with swirls of blues and whites. As for the gown, that may have been the hardest, yet most fun part of the planning. My mother, nana, and I went to probably five stores before I found the gown. I had envisioned an off the shoulder, beaded bodice, tulle ball gown with a cathedral veil. It was quite the journey of trying dozens of dresses, but finally I found the one. I knew that Zachary would like any dress I would wear on our day, but I knew that he favors the more traditional aspect of things. On August 18, 2018, we were married at the gorgeous Historic St. Patrick Church in Toledo, OH followed by a reception at the Toledo Museum of Art- Glass Pavilion. It was the most magical, dreamy day filled with love and pure joy. It seemed as though our families had worked together and supported us during our whole relationship and that day was a genuine image of our love for one another and our families. If I were to give brides a piece of advice to take with them on their wedding planning journey, it would be to allow your wedding day to truly take into account your personality and allow your wedding style to reflection of yourself and your partner. From Jenna Nicole Photography... From the unique reception venue, down to the tiny details of the stationary, this wedding combined classic & ethereal statements to create an overall dreamy event.Zachary & Olivia met in college & married in the stunning Historic St. Patrick’s of downtown Toledo. The joy that surrounded the bride and groom was obvious all throughout the day (just look at the pictures of the couple as they exit the church surrounded by their friends and family for a small glimpse of this joy!)The stationary details set the tone for the day. The letter pressed invitations featured simple text on a white background. This was complemented by the other pieces of the invitation suite, which had a greenery illustration on the edges of the cards.Olivia wore a ballgown with a tulle skirt that had delicate beading on the sleeves and throughout. The elegant design of the dress was echoed in Olivia’s Badgley Mischka heels as well as her hair that was twisted into a classic updo.Olivia & her bridesmaids got ready at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Toledo. Some of my favorite pictures are of Olivia’s flower girl, her niece, as she twirled around in her gown to match Olivia. As guests entered Zach & Olivia’s reception space, held in the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art, you could tell by their faces they were instantly wowed by the environment. The glass walls encompassed the space all throughout the building which emphasized the dreamy feel of the wedding. White flowers and greenery anchored the middle of each table, and kept the space feeling minimal & elegant in design. The cake, designed by Wendy Kromer Confections, was placed in the center of the space and the rest of the room seemed to revolve around it. The detailed design of the cake, sitting multiple tiers high, seemed to echo the detail that was evident throughout the entire wedding day. When the sun set, the reception space transformed. The pitch black sky outside of the glass walls served as a perfect backdrop for the lights in the reception space to reflect upon the glass and create the illusion of stars. The bride & groom celebrated into the night and ended their perfect day with a final dance together, surrounded by all their guests, and then an exit into the night.
