Mom says pre-school teacher dislocated her son's elbow
Police are investigating a Memphis pre-school after a student’s mother said that her son’s arm was dislocated by one of his teachers.
According to Memphis news station WMC-TV, police have obtained surveillance video of the incident. The outlet reported that the boy’s mom wasn’t informed of what had transpired until she picked her son, Jace Hudson, up from school on Friday. A spokesperson for the family, Caleb Armour, told WMC-TV that when Jace’s mother, whose name has not been made public, arrived at Lord’s Tabernacle Christian Academy, the principal disclosed that her son had been injured.
“The principal says, ‘Before you leave let me tell you what happened,'” Armour explained. “She said that there is a teacher, [Jace’s] after school care teacher was asking him to go to timeout. He did not comply or comprehend so basically, as a result, his elbow is dislocated from his arm.”
Memphis police didn’t immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. However, WMC-TV reported that the video obtained by police shows that the teacher tugged on the boy’s arm three times. From then on, Hudson was reportedly complaining about his arm hurting.
“All he could say is ‘arm hurt’ for who knows how long,” Armour said. “Why [the school] did not reach out to any emergency contact, that’s the biggest concern right now.”
Jace’s mom reportedly called 911 as soon as she heard about the incident, and provided photo and video to WMC-TV of her little boy in the back of an ambulance and later as he received treated at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. He was diagnosed with Nursemaid’s elbow, which is a common injury for children when their elbow is pulled and partially dislocated.
Lord’s Tabernacle Christian Academy didn’t immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. A spokesperson told WMC-TV, “We have been advised that this matter is under investigation and we are not making any public statements at this time.”
Both the police department and the Department of Human Services are involved in the ongoing investigation.
