Mom Shares Incredible Before-And-After Photos Following Birth of Quadruplets
Instagram blogger Lindsay Hay shared before-and-after photos of her birth of quadruplents.
Hay found out she was pregnant with four babies in April 2019, following multiple miscarriages.
Hay’s babies are home and “thriving” at seven months old.
Lindsay Hay couldn’t believe her ears when she found out she was pregnant with quadruplets. The Instagram blogger had previously experienced multiple miscarriages, and her doctors worried her tiny frame wouldn’t be able to hold four babies.
“It was very somber in that ultrasound room,” Hay told Today. “I’m 5-foot-2 and was about 115 pounds at the time and they said my body wouldn’t be able to handle it. They were very adamant about it being unsafe.”
But at 30 weeks, Hay gave birth to four beautiful babies. “They’re thriving,” she said.
In February, Hay shared a photo of her and the quadruplets before-and-after she gave birth in July 2019, and it went viral on Instagram. “I carried these sweet babies for 30 weeks and 4 days on the inside and here they are at 30 weeks and 4 days on the outside! Full hands, full heart is an understatement!” she wrote in the caption.
“Behind these babies are new marks, rolls, and skin you can’t see but they also came with new strengths I didn’t have before either,” she continued. “We have been so BLESSED and I won’t ever let myself take this life for granted.”
Hay recalled being “so uncomfortable” while she took that photo at 30 weeks, that “it was almost impossible to stand.” But at the same time, she told Today that she felt “joyful” to make it that far along in the pregnancy. “Looking at that picture now, I’m like, ‘My little body did that?!’” she said.
During her pregnancy, Hay often shared updates about how she was feeling. When the blogger announced she was pregnant with quadruplets in April 2019, she said she was “excited and scared and emotional all at once.”
On April 30, she wrote in an Instagram caption that posting photos of her pregnancy pictures made her “super uncomfortable,” but she wanted to share her experience. She also encouraged her followers to ask her questions while she was being “vulnerable.”
At the 20-week mark, Hay posted a picture of her pregnant belly with an update. The blogger said she was feeling “excited” to be closer to her goal of making it to 28 weeks, but she was honest about the symptoms she was experiencing. “Exhaustion. Sciatic kills. I’m winded from talking. My legs go numb if I sit in one position for long. I have constant tightness in my stomach and I’m starting to grow in width now too,” she wrote in the caption.
But the blogger was content. “This time last year I was miscarrying for the second time and had no idea I was going to face three more after that. Now I have FOUR babies in this belly. FOUR!” she said.
Hay experienced a slight hiccup when she had to have a cervical cerclage procedure, which closes the cervix to prevent preterm labor or miscarriage. “I was awake during the procedure and completely numb but still had a panic attack and vomited through out,” she wrote alongside a picture of her in a hospital gown from May 2019. “I’m still swollen from all the fluids and uncomfortable but also at peace because the surgery was successful and our babies are doing great!”
At 30 weeks, Hay was days away from birth and shared some final updates from the hospital. “It’s truly a miracle we have surpassed the average gestation for quads!” she captioned the post. “I will never forget my infertility doc telling me I would never be able to grow four babies with my frame and I will always be grateful we didn’t listen.”
“I am finally starting to lose my anxiousness and really genuinely believe these babies are going to get here and be just fine,” she said. “NICU will present a lot of challenges but this pregnancy has shown me a new kind of strength I didn’t know was possible.”
On July 23, Hay gave birth to her four babies, calling it “the most incredible experience of my life.” After some time in the NICU, Hay was able to bring her newborns home in September. “I can still remember feeling so euphoric the first time I held them like this. I was laughing so hard I was actually crying,” Hay wrote in another before-and-after shot of the quadruplets. “One of my most joyful moments—shoutout to the NICU nurses who made it happen with all of those wires and tubes.”
“Now it’s nearly impossible to fit them between my arms but you better believe I’ll be somehow recreating this when they’re 18,” she continued. “So proud of how far they’ve come and where they are going. It just keeps getting better and better. ??”
