Mom warns parents about innocent-looking Santa app that calls and threatens children: 'I will kill you'
A mother was horrified when she realized that one of the apps on her 3-year-old’s Kindle bore a threatening message in the guise of Christmas fun.
Kersty Elizabeth Taylor shared a video on her Facebook page of a seemingly innocent app, “Santa call NEW 2018,” which allows users to receive a phone call from Santa Claus. However, the app, which has since been taken down for download on Amazon, had a shocking message.
The voice, which one reviewer describes as “like someone who smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day,” says, “Hello, there. Can you hear me? In five nights, if you’re free, I will look for you. I will find you, and I will kill you.”
The mother has reported the app, but shared her concerns on Facebook. “What sort of a sick and twisted person would make an app made for children to call Santa into this!”
The developer, which Amazon lists as Glance Dev, has two other applications for download, “Guide for Fishdom,” and “Call From Diego the Puppet,” which has a depiction of a popular YouTube character from AwkwardPuppets.
According to Kid’s Spot, Kersty’s 12-year-old son initially downloaded the app onto his Kindle. However, her daughter, Evie-Elizabeth, 3, used the app and was brought to tears by the threat.
The Sun reports that Amazon will contact the app’s publisher and launch an investigation.
Amazon told Yahoo Lifestyle, “The app has been removed from the Amazon Appstore as it is in violation of our policies.”
Kersty did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
