More Than 133,000 Pounds of Sausage Has Been Recalled Nationwide Due to Possible Extraneous Material Contamination

Salm Partners, LLC, a worldwide producer of sausages and hot dog products, has issued a nationwide recall on ready-to-eat turkey kielbasa products citing the possibility of contamination from a so-called “extraneous material.” The announcement, which came from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on January 5, specifically named over 133,000 pounds of the ready-to-eat products.
Of the potential contaminating materials, officials have identified bone fragments in the 13-ounce plastic vacuum sealed packages of Parkview Turkey Polska Kielbasa. These products were produced on October 27 and October 30, 2023 and are all subject to recall. Each package in question features a label with P-32009 and “USE BY APR 24 24” or “USE BY APR 27 24” printed on the front. The meats were unfortunately shipped nationwide, so narrowing the recall's reach down to a specific city is not as easy as it may seem.

The contamination was first discovered when Salm Partners, LLC started fielding consumer complaints reporting pieces of bone being found in the turkey kielbasa product. The firm then notified the FSIS, who by that time had already received two consumer complaints regarding the very unappetizing problem.
So far, only one report has surfaced describing a minor oral injury associated with the consumption of the product, and thankfully, the FSIS has yet to receive any additional reports of injury or illness. Those who have consumed the product in question, however, are urged to contact their healthcare provider immediately. And if you do have said product in your possession, it is strongly urged that you refrain from consumption. Instead, either throw the product away or return it to where it was purchased. An official list of retailer distribution will be posted on the FSIS site as soon as it becomes available.
