More Than 6,000 Air Fryers are Being Recalled Due to Potential Fire and Burn Hazards
Air Fryer
Late last month, a recall was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the United States (CPSC) in relation to reports of fire and burn hazards caused by Secura air fryers. Somewhere around 6,400 air fryers were identified in the recall — Including 680 air fryers that were sold in Canada — all stemming from an issue with a wire connection that can cause the appliance to overheat.
The two air fryers in question, Secura SAF-53 and SAF-53D, were sold for up to $90 on both Secura’s website and Amazon between May 2019 and October 2020. Each air fryer included in the recall will have a date code of 1901, 1903 or 1904 on the bottom of the appliance and will feature the Secura logo in black with a silver accent near the top of the product.

So far, the USCPSC has received nine reports of the air fryer catching fire, burning and smoking, though thankfully, there have been zero reports of injuries or property damage in any of those cases. However, it has been recommended that if you are in possession of one of the aforementioned products at home, be sure to double check the model number and date code to rule out the possibility of danger.
Owners in possession of either of the recalled air fryers are encouraged to return or replace the product as soon as possible. Secura is offering customers a $45 Amazon gift card or a free replacement in light of the recall, although you’ll have to do a little bit of grunt work to qualify.
For the refund, customers must contact Secura directly with their contact information and a photograph of the unit in question, with the power cord cut off and the product’s date code in order to qualify for the gift card or replacement air fryer. Your original receipt of purchase, however, is not required in this scenario.

While Secura is doing the leg work of contacting all known purchasers of the faulty air fryers, customers are still encouraged to contact the brand with any questions related to the product. You can contact them directly by phone at 888-792-2360 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday or by email at [email protected].
Secura isn’t the only brand experiencing product recalls at the moment, however. Costco just saw back-to-back soup recalls in a four week timespan, while Kraft recalled 83,000 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American cheese due to a choking hazard resulting from plastic strips within each slice. Now, more than ever, it's imperative to be careful with what you're consuming. And even more, to pay attention to how brands handle these massive recalls.
