If you were planning on whipping out your pressure cooker this week for dinner, you may want to take a second look at the famed appliance. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), a popular brand is recalling nearly 1 million pressure cookers for a pretty important reason.

In an October 26 notice, the CPSC revealed that 930,000 Insignia brand pressure cookers sold at Best Buy stores nationwide are being recalled due to burn hazards. The recall, which specifically involves Insignia's Multi-Function Pressure Cookers with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9 or NS-MC80SS9, was implemented after the popular electronics store received multiple reports of incidents that resulted in burn injuries.

The affected electronic pressure cookers in question are said to have the incorrect volume markings on the inner pot, which can cause consumers to overfill. And as a result, hot food and liquids can eject when the cooker is vented using the quick release method or opened while contents are pressurized.

Inner pots for the pressure cookers that were sold separately as replacements and bear the model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9, are also included in the recall. These will be black in color, include a non-stick coating and have embossed markings indicating cup and liter measurements.

The recall doesn't just include pressure cookers that were purchased recently, however. Each of the 6- and 8-quart capacity pots are said to have been purchased between October 2017 and June 2023 at Best Buy stores nationwide and online through both the store's website and Amazon. Prices for the affected pressure cookers range from $50 to $120.

Unfortunately, 31 reports have been filed to date, with 17 of them including reports of burns — some of which were second-degree or severe.

If you happen to have one of the products in question in your possession, you can return it to the place of purchase for a replacement vessel. And if you have any questions in regards to the massive recall, contact Best Buy toll-free at 888-359‐4485, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. The retailer can also be contacted online at https://www.recallrtr.com/pc or www.bestbuy.com by clicking on “Pressure Cooker Recall” in the home page banner or by clicking on “Product Recalls” at the bottom of the home page under “Orders & Purchases.”

This isn't the only recent recall that was initiated due to burn hazards though. Just last month, Secura recalled more than 6,000 air fryers due to fire and burn hazards and this week, Toyota issued a massive recall due to nearly 2 million cars being at risk for catching fire.
