More Rumors Suggest Marvel Will Abandon Jonathan Majors’ Kang Storyline

Rumours are once again circling that Marvel is set to abandon Jonathan Majors and his Kang the Conqueror storyline, which is due to stretch across upcoming movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Majors is currently embroiled in legal controversy, after being arrested for alleged domestic assault. More women have come forward following those charges accusing him of similar behaviour.

Marvel was one of the few partners who didn’t immediately drop the actor. His agency did, as did movies including The Man In My Basement, and advertising partners The US Army and the MLB’s Texas Rangers. Majors hasn’t been convicted of a crime yet, but a very public trial would sour Marvel’s ongoing promotions of Majors’ Kang, a villain who already appears in MCU shows and films.

Different versions of Kang have been central to Loki Season 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the character is due to appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

According to Forbes, Joanna Robinson recently appeared on the House of R Ringer podcast talking MCU, and suggested that Marvel may have removed writer Jeff Loveness from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Loveness had previously worked on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Robinsons was one of the authors of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, the book that kicked off talk of trouble inside Marvel, including rushed digital effects, hesitance over the Kang storyline and Major’s involvement, and reduced budgets. With a downturn in popularity for Marvel movies, many are suggesting it’s time for a reboot of the MCU.

Marvel could replace Majors and pull in another actor for the Kang role, as it hasn’t been shy about having multiple actors play the same role - War Machine, Spider-Man - especially when you consider the rules of continuity go out the window when you play with time travel and multiverse storylines.

The Marvels was the most recent release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which didn’t fare too harshly with critics, although reports of a weak first showing at the box office will only add to the talk of reboots and fresh starts.
