‘The Morning Show’: Everything You Need to Know About Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon’s New Series
Fresh off the heels of Big Little Lies, Reese Witherspoon is making her return to the small screen and she’s bringing Jennifer Aniston along for the ride. Both powerhouses are set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. This marks Aniston’s first TV role since Friends took its final bow in 2004, so you know it’s going to be good. (PS: Remember when Witherspoon played Aniston’s sister on the beloved sitcom?) Here, everything you need to know before the highly-anticipated series debuts.
When Does It Premiere?
A release date has yet to be announced, but the series is expected to premiere this fall on Apple TV+.
How Many episodes are there?
Similar to the release date, that information hasn’t been confirmed yet. Personally, we’d love 100 episodes, but it appears Apple is likely kicking things off with ten. The series, which was written by House of Cards alum Jay Carson, has already received a two-season, 20-episode order.
Who’s Set to Star?
In addition to Witherspoon and Aniston, who also co-own the show and are executive producing it, the series is a venerable who’s who of TV. The Office alum Steve Carell returns to TV via The Morning Show as Mitch Kessler (who’s pretty obviously based on Matt Lauer, but more on that later). Mark Duplass (The League) stars as producer Chip Black, Nestor Carbonell (Bates Motel) as Yanko Flores, Billy Crudup (Where’d You Go, Bernadette?) as Cory Ellison, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (A Wrinkle in Time) as Hannah Shoenfeld and Bel Powley (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) as Claire Conway. That’s quite the cast.
What’s the Premise?
Seasoned TV anchors Alex Levy (Aniston) and her husband and co-host, Mitch Kessler (Carell), have their lives thrown into chaos when he’s fired after allegations are filed against him. With her fellow anchor gone (and devolving into his own personal crisis), Alex begins to fear for her job and the comfort her life has brought her. When the network decides to undergo an “epic rebirth” and brings in a young new reporter named Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon), Alex is sure it’s bad news. Or is it?
Is There a Trailer?
There sure is. Apple released the first full trailer on August 19 to much fanfare. It gives a juicy peek at what’s to come, and suffice it to say we’re even more excited than we were before.
How Can I Watch it?
The series will be available exclusively on Apple’s forthcoming streaming platform, Apple TV+. The platform hasn’t yet launched, but once it does, you can sign up for and watch Apple TV+ content through the Apple TV app, available on iPhones, iPads, Apple TV and Macs (as well as some smart TVs). It’s not confirmed, but the platform will reportedly make its grand debut in November.
Now we wait.
