The 2019 Video Music Awards is set to air live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey on Monday -- and if these past looks are any indication, it's going to be a night to remember.

The annual awards show often provides some of the most memorable (and scandalous!) looks in red carpet history, with our favorite celebrities opting for their most head-turning ensembles to close out the summer season.

In preparation for Monday evening's show, we're taking a look back at the most iconic looks from past VMAs, including Rose McGowan's skin-baring dress, Lady Gaga's raw meat costume, Katy Perry's Britney Spears-inspired gown and Christina Aguillera's gorgeous Old Hollywood silhouette by Versace.
