The Most Massive 2024 Oscar Snubs Everyone Is Spiraling Over (Greta Gerwig! Greta Lee! Charles Melton! AHHHHH!)
The Academy just announced 2024's list of Oscar nominees, and there are definitely some things to celebrate! Case in point? Ryan Gosling getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination for playing Ken in Barbie (everyone—except for Oliver Stone, apparently—loves to see it).
However, some major snubs have the internet full-on spiraling. Like, ya know, the fact that Ryan was nominated for playing Ken (which, again, is great and good for him!), but Margot Robbie wasn't nominated for playing Barbie—a move that seems to fly in the face of the entire concept of the movie. Oh, and on top of that, Dua Lipa didn't get nominated for Barbie's "Dance the Night" despite "I'm Just Ken" and "What Was I Made For?" making the cut.
We'll circle back to Barbie in a moment, but another snub that stings? Charles Melton not getting nominated for May December despite *a ton* of buzz around his role:
Meanwhile, Greta Lee was snubbed in the Best Actress category for Past Lives, which is infuriating.
AND The Color Purple didn't get a Best Picture nomination, which truly...WHAT!!!!! (Danielle Brooks did get nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role though, so at least there's that good news.)
And on top of all of this ^^^ Greta Gerwig wasn't nominated for Best Director, despite Barbie breaking box office records and inarguably changing the pop cultural landscape.
Honestly, this is just a working list of initial snubs the internet has processed in the last few minutes, so please check back for more outrage. As you were.
