Google Trends has a playful twist to the spelling game. They just released the top spelling searches by state over the past year, inviting states to poke fun at each other for the words they struggle to spell.

In New York, the top spelling search was for "aesthetic." Our neighbors in Vermont had a tough time with 'apologies,' and Connecticut seemed to be wrestling with "Monster."
Down South, Virginia, googled "said" and "because." Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, people struggled with spelling "animal."
