This Is the Most Popular Dog Breed in Every Major City

Ask anyone and they'll you what they think makes the best family dog. The Drummonds are fans of those floppy-eared, droopy-eyed basset hounds, of course. "They keep me entertained and make my heart leap!" Ree Drummond says. There's also Presley, their loyal German shepherd, as well as Lucy and Duke, the sweet Labrador retrievers. While each pup acts as the cutest helper on Drummond ranch, Labs ranked as the overall most popular dog breed across America in 2021—for the 31st year in a row, no less! (Don't worry, small dog lovers: French bulldogs were a close second.)

And yet, the "most popular" is a hard category to pin down across the country as a whole. That's why the American Kennel Club compiled a list of the most popular dog breeds in every city, and the results are adorable! Not all city-dwellers prefer small dog breeds or even medium dog breeds, but the national runner-up French bulldog does take the top spot in many cities.
