Mother Dying of Cancer Begs for Information About Kidnapped Son
Bernice Abeyta is putting out her final plea to find her son, Christopher Abeyta, who was kidnapped from his crib when he was only 7 months old, according to ABC News.
For the past 30 years, Bernice, 73, has been searching for answers. But back in May, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given only four to eight months to live. She's using what time she has left to continue her search in hopes that someone will provide information about her missing son.
One of Christopher's sisters, Denise Alves, told ABC she remembers giving Christopher a bottle, and her mother putting him in his crib - but the next morning he had disappeared. Since that day, she says her mother was "changed forever."
After years of working with the Colorado Springs Police Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Abeyta has one wish: To hear any piece of information about her son. On a Facebook page to find Christopher, Abeyta's family posted her dying plea and urged the kidnappers to come forward:
"I'm trying to put vibes his way and say, 'OK Christopher, maybe it's time for you to find us,'" she told ABC News. "Maybe it's more convenient for him to find us than us find him. I believe that all of us parents need justice. There's a lot of forgiveness going around, but ask a parent if they'd forgive."
Bernice told KKTV 11 that she's "done what she needs to do in life," but all that's missing is her son:
