Hollywood has been buzzing since the release of Greta Gerwig's highly-anticipated Barbie movie release last week—and the doll movie mania is about to get even crazier.

Following the smashing box office success of Barbie's opening weekend, Mattel confirmed that a live-action film based on the iconic Polly Pocket toys is underway, with a script already being turned in for the project.

The news of the potential Polly Pocket film was first announced in 2021, though it seems to be one step closer to becoming a real thing. With Lena Dunham slated to direct, the movie also nabbed Emily in Paris actress Lily Collins to play the lead.

"First of all, they are two of my favorite ladies ever," Robbie Brenner, the Oscar-nominated producer who runs Mattel Films and produced Barbie, told Variety

"It's been an amazing collaboration. Lena is so collaborative and rolls up her sleeves and really likes to roll around in notes and listen. She’s incredible," Brenner explained. "Lily is so smart and so specific and so productorial. It’s just been an incredible collaboration, so we are thrilled about it."

While the project is still in early development, Brenner said they are hoping to see their vision come to fruition soon.

"Hopefully, we’ll be making that at some point in the future," she added.

But that's not all Mattel has up its sleeves right now, as the toy company is also plotting more film adaptations for their famous toy brands, including Hot Wheels, American Girl, Barney, Thomas & Friends and several more.

Mattel also hinted at the possibility of future Barbie sequels, considering how much attention the new Margot Robbie-led film has received.

"Barbie, as a brand, has many different iterations. The product lines of Barbie is a very broad brand. In addition to the main Barbie figure, she has family, she has a lot of elements around in her universe,” new Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz told Variety, which reports that Barbie grossed $380 million worldwide over its first five days in theaters. "It's a very rich universe… It's a very broad and very elastic brand, in terms of opportunities."

"Successful movies lend themselves to more movies," Kreiz added. "Our ambition is to create film franchises."
