Have you ever asked for a Coke at a restaurant and been met with, "Is Pepsi okay?" Well, there's about to be a movie that tells the tale of how that all came to be.

Cola Wars is the latest movie pitch to be picked up by Sony, which tells the true story of Pepsi's attempt to challenge Coca-Cola's century-long reign as the world's top cola, sparking the unforgettable "Cola Wars" of the mid-1980s, as per Deadline.

Written by Jason Shuman and Ben Queen, Cola Wars gets into the nitty gritty of how Pepsi contended for top place against the popular drink of choice.

Sony bid between $1 million to $1.5 million for the pitch, with Maia Eyre expected to oversee the project.

Little more is known about what to expect from the battle of the cola drinks, but it's certainly piqued the curiosity of social media users who took the opportunity to clarify whose side they're on.

However, some moviegoers were not keen on the news, stating they are tired of seeing stories about brands on the big screen.

In 2023, Ben Affleck directed Air, a film about how a sports marketing executive led Nike in its pursuit of Michael Jordan.

Air cost somewhere between $70 million to $90 million to produce and grossed $90 million at the box office before finding a second-wave audience once it hit Prime Video.

It was received well by both critics and audiences, who rated it 93% and 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.

With further updates to come, Cola Wars will be one to watch as it develops.
