Was Nancy Pelosi throwing shade with her red coat? The possible secret meaning behind the viral style
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer made a visit to the White House on Tuesday for a meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss funding for the proposed border wall. But beyond the tense conversation that ensued in front of the press, people seem to be most interested in discussing Pelosi’s look, specifically her bold red coat.
The minority leader of the House of Representatives stunned the internet as she stepped out of the West Wing in the attention-grabbing color and threw on a pair of sunglasses. People immediately began speculating about the meaning behind the color choice since red is known to loudly exude confidence. She even became the center of a host of memes about the “blood red” ensemble, leading most to believe that she didn’t wear it by accident.
Btw, I loved Nancy Pelosi's red coat. Those high buttons across the neck are boss. Iconic imagery, yesterday. pic.twitter.com/hHSAPnQi3Y

Anyone else notice that after gutting 45, @NancyPelosi dones a blood red coat with gloves, before speaking to the press. I got nothing but astonished respect.

Pelosi – like the girl in the red coat of Schlinder's List, who represented a civilized world gone mad.

I don’t think I’m going too far out on a limb here when I say @NancyPelosi’s coif and glasses will zoom into popularity immediately. And she completed the ensemble with a fabulous red hot “In your face MAGAs” red coat! #perfection

All the way down to the red coat and sunglasses. She handled that crazy meeting with political class and power.

And she knew exactly what she was doing wearing THIS coat on THIS day coming out of THAT room, placing THOSE shades on JUST so. This is diplomacy in motion, soft power wielded like a machete through the diligent, decisive act of dressing.

“She knew exactly what she was doing,” film director Barry Jenkins tweeted. “They’ve never been JUST clothes.”
As it turns out, the last time Pelosi stepped out in that exact Armani coat publicly was for former President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration.
One person on Twitter even suggested that the outfit choice might have been Pelosi “throwing some shade.”
She was quite possibly throwing some shade too since she wore the same coat to Obama's inauguration ceremony in Jan 2013. Someone thought it looked it might be made by Gerard Durel. #TeamPelosi #NancysCoat #TrumpShutdown pic.twitter.com/WS15gmeYnM

According to the new Twitter account called “Nancy Pelosi’s Red Coat,” however, the politician just has some “Big Coat Energy.”
