Natalie Portman’s Golden Globe Style Through the Years: Chanel, Prada and More
Natalie Portman is one of the most recognizable actresses in Hollywood, having starred in major films such as “V for Vendetta,” “Black Swan” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Her big break came in 1994 when she starred in “Leon: The Professional” as a child actress.
In 1999, she received one of her first major acting award nominations at the Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress — Motion Picture for her role in “Anywhere but Here.” This was just the first of many nominations for her acting work, as she would also receive nods for “Closer,” “Black Swan,” “Jackie” and “May December.” She would win Best Supporting Actress — Motion Picture for “Closer” and Best Actress — Motion Picture Drama for “Black Swan.”
More from WWD
Ahead of the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, where Portman could receive her third win for “May December” in the Best Actress — Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category, WWD takes a look back at her Golden Globes red carpet moments through the years.
2000
For her first Golden Globe Awards ceremony, Portman wore a chocolate brown silk off-the-shoulder dress with a shawl and strappy black heels. She accessorized the dress with a clutch bag and necklace. Portman was just in her late teens when she secured her first Golden Globe nomination that year for “Anywhere but Here.”
2005
At the 2005 Golden Globes ceremony, Portman took home the Best Supporting Actress — Motion Picture award for “Closer.” She arrived at the ceremony in a minimalist look with a twist, featuring a sleeveless white dress with a black belted waist and a ruffle pleated tier skirt with floral embroidery from Chloé. She accessorized the dress with a clutch bag, statement earrings, a necklace and a bedazzled watch. For footwear, she selected strappy black sandals.
2006
Although she wasn’t nominated in 2006, Portman attended the ceremony as she served as one of the presenters. Portman arrived wearing a strapless black vintage Chanel lace dress belted at the waist with a statement buckle. She completed the look with black strappy sandals.
2011
In 2011, Portman arrived at the Golden Globe Awards giving a lesson in maternity style. The actress, who was pregnant at the time, wore a blush pink sleeveless Viktor & Rolf dress with a statement rose accent at the top of the bust. She coordinated the dress with red Stella McCartney heels, and accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry and a red Dior clutch bag. Portman went home that night with the award for Best Actress — Motion Picture Drama for “Black Swan.”
2012
Following her 2011 Golden Globes win, Portman returned to the Golden Globes in 2012 to present the award for Best Actor — Motion Picture Drama. This marked Portman’s red carpet return after having her first baby, and for the occasion she wore a custom strapless fuchsia gown from Lanvin with gathered fabric at the hip and a crimson accent on the bust that matched her clutch bag. She completed the look with silver Jimmy Choo sandals and diamond stud earrings from Tiffany & Co.
2017
Portman gave another lesson in maternity style on the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet where she was nominated for Best Actress — Motion Picture Drama for “Jackie,” a biopic about former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. For the event, Portman wore a custom 3/4-length sleeve Prada gown with bead embellishments on the sleeves and skirt. She accessorized with diamond earrings, a diamond bracelet and diamond rings from Tiffany & Co.
