National Grandparents Day open house set at Clearwater County History Center
Aug. 31—SHEVLIN — The Clearwater County Historical Society will observe National Grandparents Day with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, at the history center, 264 First St.
National Grandparents Day started in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation making the Sunday after Labor Day "National Grandparents Day."
According to a release, September was chosen for the holiday to signify the "autumn years." Its purpose is to honor grandparents, give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
"The Clearwater County Historical Society encourages grandparents to bring their grandchildren to the museum and share their memories with them," the release said. "Not a grandparent yet? Bring your grandparent or an older person to enjoy the museum."
Admission is free. Root beer floats and other refreshments will be served.
Attendees can also check out an informal classic car show and kids games.
